After your introductory training, you’ll discuss with your coach your potential membership in the club. Our club offers two options to cater to your interests and commitment level:
Associate Membership for Paddlers and Steerers (Trial):
Cost: $100 (Your associate membership lasts from whenever you join CCDBC until January of the following year.)
Benefits:
You can attend unlimited practice sessions on a space available basis and use of club pfds and paddles. Includes practice sessions on Wednesday afternoons and as your skill level improves, your coach will invite you to join more sessions which run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 7:45 am – 9:30 am.
You can participate in all off-water club activies.
Ideal for: New paddlers and steerers who want to try dragon boating without the racing commitment.
Limitations: No voting rights, participation on a space available basis, generally ineligible for races. The Associate Membership tier is restricted to the first year after which full membership is required to continue.
Full Membership for Paddlers and Steerers:
Cost: $200 per year + $15 SRDBA fee (annual) + race fees + cost of race attire.
Benefits:
You will receive priority for practice space.
You will race with the team when your coach thinks you are ready.
You can participate in all off-water club activies.
You will have voting rights at the annual meeting.
Ideal for: Paddlers who are serious about the sport and want to participate fully. Returning Associate Members must renew as Full Members.
Additional Information:
Membership year runs from January to January.
Practice sessions run Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings from 7:45-9:30 AM and Wednesday afternoons from 4:15-5:45 PM.
No matter which membership level you choose, you will be part of our New Buddy Program. We believe that enhancing team cohesion, performance, and the experience of new members is essential to our success. Our goal is for new members to feel welcomed and to quickly learn the team's culture and procedures. You will either select or be paired with a Buddy—an experienced member—who will mentor you and guide you through your first year in the Club. Your Buddy is available to answer any questions you may have, address concerns, or simply have a friendly chat. They will encourage regular check-ins and informal conversations to ensure that any issues are promptly resolved.
It is possible that you may not make the race boat as a new member of the club. Variables are skill level and the existing number of seats not occupied by seasoned and skilled racing team members. Let your coach know your desires and they will work with you to help you meet your goals. If you do get the opportunity to race, the team competes in about 6 races during a typical season and races fees vary by location.
